Volunteer Opportunities at Round Hill Volunteer Fire & Rescue
Round Hill Volunteer Fire & Rescue offers a wide range of rewarding volunteer roles for both operational and administrative members. Whether you're interested in emergency response or helping behind the scenes, there’s a way to serve your community and make a difference.
Operational Roles

Firefighter – Respond to fire emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, and other incidents requiring fire suppression or technical rescue. Requires structured training and physical readiness.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Provide pre-hospital medical care during 911 calls and medical standbys. State certification and ongoing training are required.

Support Services Technician – Assist with non-emergency scene functions such as rehab, equipment logistics, and safety monitoring; perfect for those who want to help on scene without full EMS/fire certification.
Administrative Roles
Leadership & Governance

President / Vice President – Guide the overall direction of the organization, preside over meetings, and represent the department in official capacities.

Secretary – Record and maintain meeting minutes, manage official correspondence, and support communication efforts.

Treasurer – Oversee financial records, budgets, and reporting to ensure fiscal responsibility.

Member at Large – Represent the general membership’s interests on the executive board.
Committees & Coordinators

Recruiting Committee – Lead outreach efforts to attract new volunteers and manage applicant engagement.

Fundraising Committee – Organize events and initiatives to raise funds for department needs and community programs.

Public Relations Committee – Promote a positive image through community events, press releases, and educational outreach.

Building and Grounds – Maintain the fire station’s infrastructure, grounds, and daily readiness.

Tech Committee – Support technology needs including IT systems, radios, and apparatus electronics.

Bylaws Committee – Review and update department governing documents to reflect evolving needs and best practices.

Quartermaster – Manage uniforms, gear issuance, and inventory of operational supplies.

Points Coordinator (LOSAP) – Track member activity and eligibility for the Length of Service Award Program.

Social Media Coordinator – Manage department presence across platforms to engage the public and highlight member efforts.

Event Support / Logistics – Assist with setting up and staffing public events, parades, and open houses.

Apparatus Maintenance Support – Help coordinate and track apparatus servicing and readiness (non-mechanical roles).
Annual Events Needing Volunteer Support
Dinner with Santa at the Fire Station (December)
Volunteers transform the station into a festive holiday space, serve food, assist with children’s activities, and manage Santa's arrival and photo sessions.
Flower Sales – Easter & Mother’s Day (Spring)
Volunteers help with flower order pickup, setup, sales, and customer service during these important fundraising weekends.
Round Hill Town Festival Parade & Open House (May)
Members march or ride in the parade and host the open house with apparatus tours, equipment demos, kid-friendly activities, and public safety outreach. Chili Cook-Off at Dirt Farm Brewery
Volunteers organize logistics, promote participation, serve chili, and assist with setup/cleanup for this competitive and community-favorite fundraiser.
Downhill Longboarding Event at Dirt Farm Brewery
Support includes EMS standby, traffic safety support, and public engagement throughout the high-speed downhill race day.
Bluemont Fair – Public Relations & EMS Support (Fall)
A major regional event needing both staffed EMS units for standby coverage and volunteers to run the department’s public outreach booth.
Franklin Park 4th of July Fireworks (July)
Volunteers provide EMS standby coverage and public relations support during this large community celebration, often coordinating with park staff and law enforcement.
Franklin Park Halloween Event (October)
Volunteers staff a fire/EMS display area and engage with families during the county’s annual Halloween celebration at the park, promoting fire safety and distributing treats.
These events are a fun and vital part of the department's mission, strengthening community ties, raising funds, and showcasing public safety services. Whether you're helping serve chili, walking in a parade, or staffing an EMS unit, there’s a role for everyone.
**When you join the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System (LCCFRS) and meet certain eligibility requirements, you get the following generous benefits:
- Eligible to receive a lifetime annuity benefit of up to $300 monthly at the age of 55.
- Tuition reimbursement for up to $2,000 a fiscal year and up to a total of $16,000 in their lifetime.
- Eligible for other scholarship opportunities due to your affiliation and service in the community.
- Eligible to receive an annual reduced vehicle personal property tax benefit and a vehicle license fee waiver.
- Operational volunteers (Firefighters & EMTs) receive a comprehensive physical annually by Loudoun County.

Additionally, LCCFRS volunteers are:

- Access to behavioral health coordinator to assist them in securing behavioral health resources.
